Dr Gloria Dominguez Ortega
Clinical and Research Fellow, Paediatric Gastroenterology
Great Ormond Street Hospital

Dr Gloria Dominguez Ortega graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Autónoma University of Madrid (Spain) in 1998.

She specialised in Paediatrics at Niño Jesús University Children’s Hospital in Madrid, one of the leading children’s hospitals in Spain, where she has been working ever since.

Over the last three and a half years, she has developed a passion for the knowledge of mucosal gut immunology, mainly focusing in food allergy and its relationship to dysmotility in the gut system. For this period, she has made contact with numerous Gastroenterology and Allergy departments in different hospitals all over the world, letting her have a clear picture of the different clinical and research approaches of the gut immune system. This has allowed her to choose Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) as one of the leading hospitals in this area.

Since September 2011, she has joined the GOSH Gastroenterology Department as a Honorary Fellow with the aim of expanding her direct experience in the practical management of the most complex food allergic patients, as well as collaborating with the Gastroenterology research team, the Neurogastroenterology laboratory team and with the Immunology laboratory team at Institute of Child Health (UCL), reinforcing the links between them.

Over the next two years she will work in a research project to describe a pattern of the gut immune environment and the interactions with the enteric nervous system within the gut of the food allergic children.

Dr Efstratios Saliakellis
Clinical and Research Fellow, Paediatric Gastroenterology
Great Ormond Street Hospital

Dr Efstratios Saliakellis graduated in Medicine at Military Medical School / Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 2001. He completed his residency in Paediatrics at Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital (Athens) and Papageorgiou Hospital (Thessaloniki) in 2008. Since then he has been working as attending paediatrician at the paediatric department of the Hellenic Police Medical Directorate.
Dr. Saliakellis has a strong interest in neurogastroenterology and gut motility disorders which led him to pursue a PhD thesis focusing on paediatric patients with gastroparesis (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece).

Since September 2011, he has joined the GOSH Gastroenterology Department as a Honorary Fellow. Over the next two years he will work closely with the neurogastroenterology and gut motility disorders team, envisaging to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the state-of-the-art procedures and methods used at GOSH for diagnosing and treating the most complex paediatric gastroenterology patients.
