Continuing education for a promising future
The Academy for Paediatric Gastroenterology (APG) is conveniently located at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in central London. The Academy provides several continuing education courses for doctors and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) such as nurses, pharmacists and dietitians, as well as the parents and guardians of young patients.
The highly specialised curriculum has been set by leading doctors in this field who have been delivering lectures and courses at the hospital for over twenty years.
Based on daily experience, the importance of educating and involving parents in the long-term treatment of their children has become vital. To meet this demand, specialised courses are being designed to help parents understand the often complex illnesses.
In addition to educating the medical and public sector, APG will be offering a Masters Degree in paediatric gastroenterology in the future.
Facing the Education Challenge
Paediatric Gastrointestinal disease is responsible for 40% of the problems that lead children to present to their local hospitals, with higher statistics in countries outside the UK. In contrast, the provision of educational opportunities for the health professionals who are coping with these large numbers of conditions is limited.
APG has recognised that there is a great need for both primary education as well as continuing education in the fields of Paediatric Gastroenterology, and is striving to fulfill this need.
The Academy is based at GOSH and in conjunction with the Institute of Child Health, is uniquely positioned within one of the world’s leading hospitals in children’s healthcare and research.
All APG courses are presented by eminent doctors in the paediatric gastroenterology field, with each course being led by the appropriate specialist.
The practical and in-depth courses are held annually and are aimed at the following audience:
